Episode Summary
With the school year almost at the end for many of us, or even finished for some, I wanted to revisit one of the episodes I recorded a while back because I know that it will really come in handy. Either now or at the start of the new school year. Honestly, anytime. What I’m talking about is how to use choice boards in your El classroom. What they are, how you can use them with your English learners and the benefits they bring to both you and your students. In this episode, I will share how I use choice boards in middle and high school and why both my students and I enjoy them. But the ideas can certainly be applied to teachers of ELs in elementary grades as well, with a little bit of tweaking.
What you will hear about in this episode:
- Benefits of using choice boards for EL students
- Ways to use choice boards (weekly assignments, bell ringers, team and community building)
- Weekly assignment choice board covering all four language domains
- Differentiated choice boards for newcomers
- Impact of choice boards on teaching and learning
