We’ve all heard this phrase: but math is math! M

We’ve all heard this phrase: but math is math! Math is a universal language! 😳 Well, it is not. Especially whem we are talking about math in the context of English (ELL) (or ang other language learning). 1. We can’t communicate anything putely through numbers. Yes, the digital expressions of numbers are the same across many cultures, but to say 2 + 2 = 4 in any language requires words. 2. Increasingly, students are required to explain and analyze mathematical concepts in their own words in schools. If an EL is not taught the language of math, they will be lost. Even though they might know the numerical operations, they will not be able to succeed in any type of classroom activity or assessment that requires them to manipulate the labguage of math. 3. The ESL Teaching Podcast was born on January 11, 2022 out of the desire to support all teachers of ELs. And it has grown to so much more! 🎉 Here are the lessons I learned: 1. 🌼Relatability and connection always win. Sometimes my episodes are not perfect, and sometimes I am quite proud of what I created but the fact that they resonate with so many of you is what keeps me moving forward! 2.🌼 Keeping a schedule of releasing weekly episodes is not always easy. But knowing that there is even one teacher out there who is looking forward to that Tuesday episode drop is worth it all. And 3🌼 Taking a break is necessary sometimes.
